Celebrating 110 days abroad
I missed my 100 days because I was still traveling, so I figured I would celebrate 110 instead!
On Sunday, Flora and I decided it was “treat-yo-self” kind of day. We had ice cream and coffee for breakfast at a new ice cream bar that opened up near campus. We visited there for a few hours, before heading to a closer grocery store that Flora found while I was gone! We did some much needed shopping and stopped by the Panini Cafe for a late lunch. We relaxed in the room for a little bit before meeting up with some friends in the park. Adeline will be the next friend to leave, so we picnicked with her Ludovica and Eetu. Adeline and Eetu really wanted to try the new ice cream bar so we went back there for another round of ice cream! We parted ways a few hours later for dinner.
Monday morning we were woken up to the lawn care men weed-whacking and mowing the lawn. We walked over to the canteen for lunch, and then grabbed coffee and sat on a bench on campus for a bit. We headed back up to the dorm and waited for Adeline. We helped Adeline get onto the train and said our goodbyes, and were back to campus to study for our finals. Flora and I will be here for another week and half, before she goes home and I go to visit the family.
On Tuesday, Flora had 2 exams and was out of the room early for last minute studying. I decided to chill in the dorm until it got to hot that I needed to leave. I walked over to the park bought an ice cream bar and a sprite, and relaxed under a shady tree. I was catching up on a few podcasts when a homeless man came up to me asking for money, after telling him no a lady came over and started yelling at him to leave me alone and to get out of the park. It was hard not to laugh at the whole situation while eating my ice cream! Eventually, I met back up with Flora at the dorm and we decided to go out for dinner, which was a nice change in dining options.
On Wednesday, I woke up early to get to my 1st exam of the week! I did a little studying in the main campus library for a bit before I was off. The class was my American-Literature and the exam was just putting excerpts to books and authors, thank goodness for high school English! Flora and I decided to try out a gyros place nearby campus (not nearly as good as the real deal in Greece) but still tasty! Afterwards, Flora was off to take a final and I decided to run to the store for a few things. I ended up going to the park for a bit again just to get out of the room!
Thursday, I woke up entirely too early because of the heat (it was 75 at 6 in the morning). The heat stuck around for a few days and Flora, and I were constantly out and about trying to avoid the heat in the room. We ended up going to our favorite cafe and sat around for 5 hours enjoying the free AC. We ate lunch and then got lemonades and cold desserts while we chatted about anything that came to mind. We walked back to the dorm, stopped at the store for some water and called it a night.
On Friday, Flora and I had lunch at the canteen and walked over to the Learning Center on campus. It is one of the only buildings that has a good AC, and we were desperate for escape from the heat. We grabbed some iced coffees and started working on our own projects. I did a bunch of work on the sheep business and some job searching. I have an interview (I won’t tell you where) this next week and I am pretty excited to possibly have a job lined up when I am back. After spending 6 hours in the Learning Center, we ventured back to the dorm to drop off our things before going to dinner. We tried a new place that Flora found that was super cute. It was in a completely different region of Debrecen, and it was exciting to eat some good pizza and drink tasty lemonade after a hot day.
On Saturday, we stuck around the dorm until it was to hot to function and headed over to the Learning Center again. On the way, we stopped for iced coffee and ice cream to cool down. We are looking forward to Monday and a break from the heat! I did some Google analytics certifications, while Flora did some more studying for her last exam on Tuesday.
Sunday, we were still roasting! Flora and I walked back down to the city center with our backpacks to mix up the study/workspace. I am starting to put together a coffee table book with photos from my time here in Europe! While we were on our way back, a storm came through and we took shelter under an awning waiting for it to lighten up. Thankfully, with the rain came a much needed break from the heat. This was the last day of 90+ weather for the week! Once we got back to the dorm, I finished up this week’s posts and did some more work.
This weeks photos are a little different. The fountain is from right by the campus grocery store that Flora and I go to for coffee and snacks. The hedgehog just wanders the streets here like a squirrel would back home! The food is from lunch in the canteen that whole meal cost a whopping $3.00. Of course, I couldn’t miss out on another cafe photo - this time with lemon meringue pie and an iced latte!
The family will be arriving this next Friday!!! I will be traveling with my laptop so I will go ahead and keep the rest of you updated on our activities, thanks for following along :)
