The calm before the storm

On Monday, Flora and I went to grab lunch at the canteen and ran into the Italian girls! We grabbed lunch with them and recapped our weekend activities. They will be here through June, so they might get to meet the family when they come to visit (emphasis on might). I am still trying to figure out the exam scheduling process here, but I should be done with all of mine by the end of May/beginning of June. That being said, I have lots of studying to do which is what Flora and I did all afternoon. The library was full of other students studying so we ended up at a table in the German Institute in the Main Building on campus. After hours of studying, I came back early to finally do my laundry! Flora joined me later and we had dinner in the dorm. While we were eating, Flora watched the one and only Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron after Charlotte and I said it was our favorite childhood movie. An hour and half later, she finished the movie and had clearly been crying at one point - needless to say I have created a fan for the movie from Bulgaria.

On Tuesday, we went to the canteen for lunch. After lunch, Flora went to deliver her presentation and I was off to the bank to try to open my bank account. Unfortunately, I had to go back on Wednesday because we needed to wait for approvals before opening my online bank account. On the bright side, I can now check that off the list of things that I adulted on my own through internationally!

Wednesday, another very lowkey day. I woke up early and was off to the bank to finally secure my funds despite only having 1 month left. Afterwards, Flora and I had lunch at the canteen and came back to do some more studying. We took a quick mental health break and grabbed ice cream bars and sat in the park for a bit. We came back grinded out a few more hours of studying before calling it a night.

Nothing to exciting happened on Thursday just more of the same - lunch at the canteen, studying, park break, sleep.

On Friday, Flora and I were off to canteen (shocker) but ran into one of our Turkish friends so we at least had someone else to talk to for a bit. After our lunch, Charlotte joined us for a coffee break at a Corgi Cafe (if the name doesn’t explain it they had 3 adorable corgis that slept, played, and relaxed while we had our coffee). Charlotte had a meeting in the afternoon, so we all packed up and started back for the city center. Flora and I decided we needed a little sweet treat and stopped by a cafe for a few hours to snack and make plans for this next week. We came back to the dorm and called it a night.

On Saturday, we had a pretty chill day. We woke up and studied before Flora was off to the city center for a project meeting. I took the time to take a break and walk outside for a bit and called Jess and Jae to catch up. We visited for a few hours before I stopped by the grocery store for some fresh strawberries and mini waffles! I came back to the dorm studied for another hour before calling the family to talk through their trip. A few hours later, I was ready for dinner and sleep.

Sunday, we spent the day enjoying the city center in full summer mode! We enjoyed breakfast at another cafe in Debrecen and slowly started our walk back to the dorm. I studied for a few more hours before calling it a day and made myself some dinner and went to sleep.

Monday morning we were off to the canteen for lunch and grabbed cheesecake and coffee for a quick stop in the park. I spent the afternoon studying before going to the grocery store for some last-minute food.

On Tuesday, Flora and I were back at the canteen. I came back and did a last-minute load of laundry before my trips to Italy and Greece. After doing my laundry, I worked on my homework for my language class. I was off to class and then getting ready for our farewell dinner. After the rush of getting ready, we walked over to the Main Building. We were able to sit wherever we wanted, so naturally the core 7 gathered around the table and caught up on the craziness of the last few weeks! We voted on different superlatives for our Erasmus buddies and had 2 of our own win: Tommi won Mr. Funniest and Martina won Ms. Exchange - and we were absolutely ecstatic. I was also able to catch up with some of the other Erasmus students including my German, Uzbekistan, and Turkish friends that don’t live on our floor. After a delicious dinner of some Hungarian chicken and noodles, we took a ton of group photos (see below). We also picked out post cards and had the main group sign them like a yearbook (also below)! Charlotte and Adeline called it a night and the rest of us headed off to the Bakelit Cafe for one more round of partying. The party itself was pretty small, but it was great catching up with Eetu and Tommi and we met another one of their Finnish friends (that is a total of 5 people from Finland that I know). We called it a night at midnight and everyone went back to sleep.

On Wednesday, Flora and I grabbed lunch at the canteen and had coffee in the park. It has been a bit cloudier and chillier here in town so we did not stay in the park for to long. Flora was off to class, and I started packing for the next 2 weeks. After packing, I finished this blog post.

I will be in Italy visiting Venice and Rome with Izzy for a week. From there, I will be back in Budapest for 2 days splitting time with Izzy, Gabby, and Jaeda. Izzy will fly back to the US the same day Gabby, Jae, and I take off to Athens. We are spending a few days there, and then will be off to Ljubljana, Slovenia. That being said, I probably won’t be posting an update for a few weeks, so until then stay updated on my Instagram and Facebook.
